Michael Stanek's Homepage
So you have found my personal homepage.
Congratulations and Welcome!
The transporter log
indicates that you are life-form number
to beam aboard this page.
My name is Michael Stanek. I am a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering
at the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich
(Eidgenössische Technische
Hochschule Zürich), where I am also employed as a research
assistant with the High
Voltage Technology Group.
Originally, I conducted my studies at the
Vienna University of Technology
until April 1997, when my professor/boss accepted a call to teach here in
Switzerland, and took me with him.
If you are interested in my work you may visit my official homepage
in English or
German.
I won't repeat it here.
This page is about myself. Below you have the chance to get to know me
a little bit.
Some Personal Information
- I am a fully grown male exemplar of the species Homo Sapiens Sapiens.
Presently about 180 cm tall and slim (68 kg).
- I was born in February, 1965 in
Vienna,
Austria, Europe, Terra,
Solar System, Milky Way. (I assume you know which universe that is.)
- Most of my life I have been spending in this place, too. Right now,
of course, I am living in Zurich.
- A couple of years ago I graduated from Electrical Engineering /
Telecommunications Engineering ("Elektrotechnik / Nachrichtentechnik" --
Can you believe this? A German expression is actually shorter than the
corresponding English one!) by receiving my Dipl.-Ing. (M.S.) degree.
- You might appreciate that I neither drink nor smoke. I've never used
alcohol or tobacco all my life, and I'm not going to, either!
Hobbies
- Sports (Volleyball, Soccer, Swimming).
- Dancing
(I mean the REAL stuff, i.e. ballroom dancing: Waltz, Tango,
Rhumba, etc.). I even passed the "Gold-Star" dancing test with
A+ ("ausgezeichnet").
- Singing, playing music (keyboards, E-bass) or listening to music.
- Going for a walk or hike.
- Hacking my PC, Inter-Netting.
Religion
I am an active member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
(so you could also call me a Mormon). Actually I have been all my life.
Activity in the Church has been an important part of my life for many
years; that's why I am mentioning it here separately.
For those of you who are familiar with these terms:
I went all the way through Primary, Young Men and Aaronic Priesthood,
Melchizedek Priesthood, Full-time Mission
(England London South
Mission).
Presently, I am a member of the Altstetten Zürich Ward, which is part
of the Zürich Switzerland Stake. Here I am serving as second counselor
in the bishopric.
If you want to learn a little bit about this Church you may visit my
Church homepage for Austria.
It comes in both English and German.
I enjoy laughing. Therefore, I compiled this list of
Humorous links

And finally, the answer to the big question,
Why all this bother with a homepage?

What, you still haven't had enough? Well, in this case you might want to visit
some other people:
- My best friend, Robert (he's married, though! ;-)
- Some students
at the Vienna University of Technology
- Some students
of Electrical Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich
Now, if you are still here, I can't help you any further. Except...
You may email
me at
[email protected], in German or English.
